Documents Required for Agro Product Export

Essential Documents Required for Agro Product Export from India

India is one of the world’s leading exporters of agricultural products including rice, spices, pulses, fruits, vegetables, oil seeds, and processed food items. To export agro products successfully, businesses must complete the required documentation and compliance process before shipping internationally.

Basic Documents Required for Agro Export

1. Import Export Code (IEC)

IEC is a mandatory registration issued by DGFT for starting any export business in India. Without IEC, international trade transactions cannot be conducted legally.

2. APEDA Registration (RCMC)

For most agricultural and processed food products, exporters must obtain APEDA Registration Cum Membership Certificate (RCMC). This registration helps businesses export products under APEDA categories and access government export support schemes.

3. FSSAI License

If the business deals with food products, spices, grains, pulses, processed foods, or edible products, an FSSAI license is generally required to ensure food safety compliance.

4. GST Registration

GST registration is necessary for export invoicing, tax compliance, and claiming export-related benefits under Indian taxation laws.

5. AD Code Registration

Authorized Dealer (AD) Code registration with customs is required for port-level export clearance and foreign currency transactions.

6. Phytosanitary Certificate

Many countries require a phytosanitary certificate to confirm that agricultural products are free from pests, diseases, and contamination. This certificate is usually issued by the Plant Quarantine Authority.

7. Commercial Invoice & Packing List

These documents contain buyer details, product description, quantity, pricing, packaging details, and shipment information required during customs clearance.

8. Certificate of Origin

This document confirms the country of origin of exported products and may help importers claim trade agreement benefits in their country.

Importance of Proper Documentation

Incorrect or incomplete export documentation can lead to:

  • Shipment delays
  • Customs rejection
  • Financial losses
  • Payment issues
  • Buyer dissatisfaction

Therefore, exporters should ensure every document is properly prepared before initiating international shipments.
